Last call
I promise I'll shut up about this sale after this. The text from an email to the "interested parties" list.
Hi all,
I've spoken to some of you about the GBP garage sale this weekend, but I wanted to extend one last invitation to participate. We're having a BIG garage sale at the shop this Saturday and we need more stuff to sell. Don't get me wrong, we have lots of stuff already, but we're trying to make this a mammoth sale! Please don't think this is a call for donations (while we'd accept them if you offered) as my goal is just to make this as big an even as I can. If you want to participate, please let me know by Friday.
Before you ask, here are the answers to some of the common questions I've been asked.
Q: I have big stuff and no truck. Can you help?
A: YES! I and my truck are available every night this week to pickup large or heavy items for the sale.
Q: I don't want to have to lug all this junk to the shop before 9am on a Saturday!
A: Don't! We have lots of space in the shop to store your stuff for the sale.
Q: I don't want to donate, but I can't be there all day to sell my stuff.
A: That's OK. There will be several people working "the box" and we can sell for you. All we ask is that your items are priced beforehand or that you don't get mad when we try and sell it for what WE think it's worth. The money we make from your stuff is yours.
Q: I'm worried about rain.
A: Aren't we all. To prepare we have at least 1 tent and we will be using the inside of the shop as a fallback position.
Q: Where does the money go from the donations and where do unsold items go?
A: The money goes to help pay for the renovations to the shop (several hundred dollars worth so far). Extra items will be donated to Goodwill or salvation army.

Grand Re-Opening!
It's done. We've painted the walls, fixed the fixtures, swept the floors and even cleaned the bathroom in preparation for our GRAND REOPENING! This Saturday (July 11th) we will be having a Grand-Reopening garage sale! We're pulling out all the stops. All of our back stock (complete bikes, parts bikes, and even just frames) will be for sale at RIDICULOUS PRICES! We're talking whole bikes from $5! We'll also have regular garage sale items (furniture, a drier, books, clothes) for sale to help us pay for our renovations (paint and supplies are EXPENSIVE!). We also have reports that D'Lite's will be there selling their tasty treats.

Fixies get fixed
Pardon the pun, but it seems that fixed gear bikes without hand brakes are being banned in Berlin. This does nothing to stop the craze that is the fixed gear bike in the US, in fact, it even reinforces the perception that riding a bike with no brakes (but WITH handlebars) is anti-establishment.
We at the GBP recognise the need for such bikes and their revolutionary riders. That's a good thing, because if we didn't then the fixies and single speed bikes we're building would just have to be scrapped! We have 4 of these bikes in the works with another 1/2 dozen or so planned. Here's the frame makes and general sizing for the 4 we're building at the moment.
Schwinn Varsity (~60cm) in yellow
Panansonic (~58cm) in black
No name (~54cm) in TBD
Free Spirit (~56cm) in purple or rider's choice
Each bike will be fitted with a single speed or flip flop hub. We will also be customizing the handlebars for a lighter and sleeker ride (eg, bullhorn or shorty bars) and leaving on at least one break (so you can ride in Berlin if you want). ETA on these is about 1 a week through 8/1.
These bikes may only be reserved through 25% deposit that is refundable only if the bike must be scrapped*. Pricing of these bikes is dependant on which parts are included (hub, handlebars, paint, etc). Those who reserve the bike in advance may choose parts.
*Scrapping of a bike means that the frame has been deemed unsafe or parts can not be found. Dates of delivery are approximate and dependant on external parts suppliers.

RESPECT
A good link for bicycle advocates and casual bikers alike. The WSJ on R-E-S-P-E-C-T, tell me what it means to me.
Also, the much fabled TREKs are here and better than advertised as both frames come with extra components! We've also added a beautiful Gary Fisher front shock MTB and a sold frame Schwinn to our stock. On the accessory side, we've picked up a shipment of brand new riding gloves ($10, medium and large, blue or black), watter bottles ($4, 24oz, yellow green), micro multi-tools ($5), as well as a few other goodies. All these items will be available on the 11th.
Finally, our garage sale is a GO! We have two confirmed sellers beyond the GBP as well as Ice Cream for sale from D'lites! If you've never had their ice cream, I pity you. The entire GBP staff is hooked on the low cal, soft serve. I'm a sucker for the peanut butter and chocolate myself. In fact, it may become a problem when we decide to cut our hours short to go enjoy some (just kidding, we'd stock up before we open). Did I mention it was low cal and delicious?
