Welcome to the GBP Blog

This is the Blog associated with our main website TheGreenBicycleProject.org

The GBP has merged with Damn Good Bikes LLC. Please visit the new blog for more recent updates.

We are the GBP. Our mission is to keep bikes on the road and thus keep cars off. We call this “Bikecycling”; that’s recycling, but for bikes. The concept is simple. Take a bike that’s no longer wanted, broken, or even bound for a landfill and apply a bit of knowhow and a lot of elbow grease and you get a bike that can last someone for years. These bikecycled bikes are sold at a price that covers only our costs in repairing them so as to provide bicycles at the lowest cost possible. All of our bikes are repaired and tuned by a mechanic so that from the moment you pick them up they are ready to hit the road. Take a look below for our current project bikes and completed rides.

Location:
We are located in the US Storage facility at Capital Circle NE and Mahan Rd. While have moved into our new store, we are in the same complex. To get there follow the road through the complex, around the 90 degree bend and make the first left (at the tree). We'll be the first store front on your right. Sound complex? The best way to find us is to follow the bikes!

Buying our bikes:
Please visit our main website at thegreenbicycleproject.org for information about buying our bikes. You may also email us at Thegreenbicycleproject@gmail.com.

Project: Painted Road Bike

This bike is a blue road bike with a welded steel frame of unknown brand. It's a 54cm? bike with 700 wheels. The bike requires new tires, cables, and a drive train refurb. The estimated time of completion of this bike is Dec 14th. This bike will be priced no higher than $100 when complete and will be considered a Green Bicycle. If you wish to purchase the bike BEFORE I've completed work I can customize parts for you for no additional cost beyond any additional cost of your requested parts.

Note: This bike is waiting for parts and all dates are estimated

SOLD: Schwinn 56cm Road Bike

This bike is a red Schwinn road bike from the early eighties. It's a 10 speed, 56cm bike with 27" wheels. The bike has new tires, but is waiting on cables and new handlebar wraps. The estimated time of completion of this bike is Jan 14th. This bike will be priced at $125 when complete. If you wish to purchase the bike BEFORE I've completed work I can customize parts for you for no additional cost beyond any additional cost of your requested parts.

Note: This bike is waiting for parts and all dates are estimated

Road Bikes

Many of you have been asking for road bikes. In general I don't deal in such big ticket items (I leave that to Dan) but In the last two-three weeks I happen to have accumulated 3 road bikes! Unfortunately only one will qualify as Green bikes due to the cost of parts. The other two will be reasonably priced based on quality and similar aspects. I will post them separately but please understand, I can not hold a bike and I absolutely can not trade bikes.

New Bikes From Tracy

I just wanted to take a moment to thank a friend fo the GBP Tracy for donating several bikes today. All three of the bikes are in good condition which means they will be available sooner rather than later. Even though it's December, there's a great call for bikes and the more we can put back on the road the better. Thank you again Tracy.

Quick Note

One of the great things about the GBC is that sometimes people come to me with a specific need that I can fill. One of our fans, who we will call Ms. R, came by tonight and picked up a bike I was refurbishing for her. The bike never made it to the site but it will make it back to the street. She also made a donation that will go toward bike repair at Krank It Up! So let me say thanks to Ms. R and I hope she likes her bike!
