The Green Bicycle Project is GROWING! We've secured a MUCH larger space (in the same complex). The new shop will have more room for bikes, a nice quiet area for test rides, and LOWER PRICES! That's right, because we've been able to secure a retail space for the price of a storage unit we can purchase parts at wholesale prices and pass the savings along to you.
We are also going to be rolling out a new line of GBP merchandise. Everything from T-Shirts to stickers to water bottles will be available with a new GBP logo. Have I mentioned we're having a design contest for our new logo? No? Well we are! What will we be giving away to the winner? Why a bike of course! I'll post details in a later post.
One last thing. Because we'll be closed on the 11th to move (yes, that soon!), this weekend we will be having a moving sale at the old shop. Most bikes will be 10% or more off the normal price and all unfinished bikes will be available for sale at deep discounts.
If you've been looking for a bike, Saturday is the day to visit the shop!

Moles and Trolls
All they do is work work work. Unfortunately that's my weekend. I'm being asked to come in to my day job tomorrow (the NERVE!) so I won't be at the GBP. If you were planning on coming by, drop me a line and we can set something up.
Also, there's been a vicious rumor that we're working on getting both a new location and sponsorships. I'm not sure who started the rumor (no, actually I KNOW who started the rumor) but this one is true. We're currently looking at 3 locations with a decision due by the middle of next month. As for sponsorships, we're working with several in town and out of town bike shops and manufacturers to try and reduce our costs even further. Why do you care? Because lower costs mean lower prices!

Complete: Next BMX
This bike is a relatively new Next BMX bike. The bike has front a rear pegs installed along with super sturdy wheels (twice as many spokes as usual) for both street and vert. This bike also has dual breaks with a cableless connection to allow for 360 degree handlebar spins.
The bike is considered "green" as it is priced at only $50.
The bike is available by appointment (email thegreenbicycleproject@gmail.com) or on Saturday during normal shop hours (12pm-5pm).
Complete: MTB Murray Ultra Sport
Today's bikes is a men's Murray Ultra Soprt MTB. It's a 21 speed, fixed frame bike that comes with the waterbottle and holder. I've given this bike a good tuning and replaced a worn seat.
The bike is considered "green" as it is priced at only $50.

$3,000 for a trek commuter bike
That's the one takeaway I garnered from this article. Granted, the people building these bikes are Trek (which must stand for Truly Really Expensive biKes) so at least some of the price comes from the brand name. What's that? Each of the bicycles is branded as Bcycle not Trek? I give up.
The reason most ride sharing plans fail is that they don't assign private property rights effectively. This plan does assign responsibility to some extent (you check out a bike like a book at a library) but it doesn't impose a fee based on use, just access. The Bcycle project misses the point.
Personally, I'd like to see some company make these available in the US. For just over $1366 each, they're much more eco friendly than similarly prices motor scooters and much safer than the similarly priced home jobs.

New Hours
Last week was a wonderful week for new bikes. I picked up an additional 7 bikes and managed to make it to the shop only 30 min late. If it seems that I've been late a lot, it's true. Sometimes it takes much longer to find bikes than I might wish. However, there is a solution. From now on the GBP will be open extended hours. The new hours are noon-5pm (yay! I get lunch!).
Also, this week is the ride at the St. Marks trail. I'll be there and you should be too!

Complete: Girls Dual Shock MTB
This bike is the first of several that I will be posting this week. The bike is a Girl's Next 24" Dual Shock MTB. The bike is a 21 speed and is shiny purple with purple tires. If you're a smaller girl in need of inexpensive transport, this is the bike for you!
