Complete: Girls Dual Shock MTB

This bike is the first of several that I will be posting this week. The bike is a Girl's Next 24" Dual Shock MTB. The bike is a 21 speed and is shiny purple with purple tires. If you're a smaller girl in need of inexpensive transport, this is the bike for you!

The bike is considered "green" as it is priced at only $40.

The bike is available by appointment (email thegreenbicycleproject@gmail.com) or on Saturday during normal shop hours (12pm-5pm).

Ride for a reason next saturday

The GBP will be closed so that we can attend the Matthew Beard Memorial Ride to the Sea. The ride is to raise awareness of drunk driving in Florida. The event is free and you have no excuse to miss it. From the press release:


"FSUPD Hosts Matthew Beard Memorial Ride to the Sea on March 21

The FSU Police Department and its community partners would like to invite the local cycling community out to the St. Marks Trail for a pleasant Saturday morning ride for a very special purpose. In December 2006, FSU marine biology scholarship student Matthew Beard was on his way to south Florida to complete a scuba diving trip. While riding in the back seat of his friend’s car, they were struck from behind by a drunk driver. Matt was severely injured and died from his injuries several days later with his mother Connie by his side. Matt’s death was a terrible loss to the FSU community and a loss to the marine research community as well. As an undergrad, Matt was successful enough in his research to have it published in respected scientific journals. During spring graduation, President T.K. Wetherell awarded Matt his bachelor’s degree posthumously. Apart from the devastation to Matt’s family and friends, this tragedy highlights the threat that drunk drivers pose to us all as users of the roadways. The Matthew Beard Memorial Ride to the Sea is intended to embrace the spirit of Matt’s life, to remind us that
DUI claims real lives and not just statistics, and to demonstrate the community’s unified commitment to stopping DUI.

The ride will begin at 9am on March 21 at the St. Marks Trailhead in Tallahassee. There is no preregistration required and the ride is absolutely free. Riders should arrive early enough to sign in, much like a regular club ride. The course is a simple out and back along the trail to the St. Marks River Park near the fort. The ride will be supported with snacks and drinks. Riders will receive a “Beard MATTers” anti-DUI bracelet and t-shirts will be given to finishers. The ride is being presented by Student Housing Solutions, LLC, and is supported by additional community supporters. The Florida Park Police have committed to attend to assist with the ride, and the trail has been reserved for this event with the Office of Greenways and Trails. Upon arrival in St. Marks, riders will be able to sign a designated driver pledge and will be able to dedicate a flower in memory of a loved one or person affected by a DUI driver. This is a great ride not only for experienced cyclists, but also for friends and family who may like to try out an easy, organized ride for the first time. Come out for a ride that makes a statement and can save lives!

Tomorrow at the GBP

As posted before there are TONS of new road bikes in the shop. TONS! I'm also going on a buying trip this evening (and into the morning) to pick up some more! Further, as tomorrow is my favorite holiday (just slightly above the 4th of july and talk like a pirate day) we'll have something special in store for all our visitors! See you all tomorrow!

Thank god you don't live in OR

This proposal goes against everything the GBP stands for. Oregon, being one of the most bike friendly states in the union, wants to charge bikes for the right to bike on the street. I could understand a small registration fee, but when the fee for 2 years of using a bike is as much as the bike itself? I think there's an issue there. What do you think?

New bikes, pt. 2

Now that my midterms are over I should have a much better chance to get through the backlog of bikes that have built up this past week. I mentioned in the last post that there were 6 new road bikes. It turns out that by weeks end there were 7 road bikes and 2 mountain bikes. Here's a basic list of the road bikes:

Large Men's no-name (Red)
Large Men's no-name (Blue), sold as-is
Medium Woman's Comet (Red)
Small Men's Peugot (Dk Blue)
Medium Men's Peugot (Blue)
Medium Women's no-name (Green), on hold
Medium Men's Free Spirit (Purple), on hold

There's also a small girl's dual shock MTB and a medium men's MTB (that needs some work). I don't have prices for the bikes yet as I haven't gotten too far into the repair process (some need parts). The general rule for pricing is something on the order of:

$50 for MTBs
$75-$100 for Hybrids
$100-$150 for standard road bikes
$150 and up for brand name or race worthy road bikes

It should be noted that 2 of the road bikes have been claimed. While not sold, someone has laid claim to them and thus will get first shot when they're finished. If you're interested in a bike email me or come by on Saturday. I will gladly put your name on a bike that's still being repaired.

New Bikes!

FLASH: In an unprecedented move, the GBP has purchased a lot of 6 road bikes thereby doubling their entire road bike output for their entire existence!

Yes, the rumors are true. The GBP has purchased 6 new road bikes in sizes ranging from 48cm (yes a very small bike) to 62cm (of course, a very large bike). The bikes range from fixers to ready to ride. They're a mix of men's and women's frames.

If you have requested a bike in the last few months and are still looking, I will be sending emails later this week. If you requested a specific bike and I have one that might match your request, you get first dibs until shop hours Saturday. After that, it's first come first served!

In further good news, these bikes may be just the first of many. There is a chance I can pick up quite a few more over the next few months. So if you have a need, EMAIL ME. You get to be first on the list when I get new bikes!

Rain, Sleet, Snow or Shine

Tomorrow's weather looks terrible. T-storms with hail and "damaging winds" is forecast. However, I have several people who I promised to be in the shop for so I'll be there. I will only have the yellow bike outside to mark the shop as the truck will be around the corner under an awning and the other bikes will be inside. If the rain gets too bad, I will also mostly close the door to keep the rain out.
